Not COOL for American Businesses

“The importance of the U.S. trade relationship with Canada and Mexico for American workers, farmers, ranchers, and companies of all kinds is worth bearing in mind. A trade dispute with a minor commercial partner can be damaging; a trade dispute with the two largest markets for U.S. exports could be highly damaging.”
–U.S. Chamber of Commerce

The impact of the World Trade Organization (WTO) finding the U.S. non-compliant for the fourth time in response to mandatory Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) will reverberate throughout the American economy. America’s farmers and ranchers will be harmed, but workers and other companies outside of agriculture will also feel the effect of retaliatory sanctions Canada and Mexico would place on the U.S. should the U.S. lose. These potential tariffs would have a substantial economic impact on a broad spectrum of commodities and manufactured products that would affect every state in the country.

According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, trade with Canada and Mexico supports nearly 14 million U.S. jobs. With 95 percent of the world population residing outside of the U.S., trade is essential to America's economy. If trade compliance standards are not met, American businesses will be unable to sell their goods and services across trade barriers and the U.S. could lose its reputation as a reliable trade partner. The following list of American companies and organizations believe COOL is bad for the U.S. economy and are a part of the
